April fools! More snow :(

So I woke up this morning to the meanest possible April Fools Day joke... 5 cms of fresh snow. Plows were on the roads. Kids were wearing snow suits. Ellen was cranky.

As I do not like to wallow any more than is necessary, I decided to write instead about all the positive happenings of last week.

For example:

- Our lovely new plans for HJC were finished and when presented to the town of Cornwall, were approved for our building permit. :) With this permit comes our civic number so all will be able to find us at # 271 Cornwall Rd.

- We have ordered (with the help of Dave Cail from Coop Atlantic) the CoverALL building system that will serve as our arena and are assured it will be up and running in May.

- Windows and doors have been ordered with the help of Mike at Metro Building Supplies and are good to go.

- The road work excavating and grading is booked (thanks to Ronnie Hughes) and should be in the works within 2 weeks. Look for proud pictures of my mud pit!

- Maritime Electric should be in soon to hook up temporary power.

-Aliant has given us a phone number (894-5452).

AND...

- As far as I am concerned most exciting of all - I purchased 2 new horses from Rowdy Ranch in Clinton PEI for the program and was given an extra one for good measure, this brings HJC staff up to 5 including myself and Dewy. Our new members are: Blue, Peaches and Taxi. Blue and Peaches and Dewy will be beginning employment June 1st so look for them in the field.

I'm sure my patience will be well exercised by the time of completion but I must say I am truly excited to watch this process take place. The professionals guiding me through this have been wonderful and have gone out of their way to help.

Now if I could only say the same about Mother Nature...

My land...

Still remarkably snow covered - this is the future site of HJC. My dear friends (one in particular) think I'll be out with a portable hair dryer trying to get the frost out of the ground. Tempting though that may be - I refuse to scare my future neighbors before ever moving in!

I am currently keeping my fingers crossed that spring will be early and posts will be, sooner rather than later, driven into the ground.

About the land:

This is a 75 acre parcel fronting on the Cornwall Road. It is long and narrow, reaching back as far as the Linwood Road and is surrounded on all sides by active farms. This property has been farmed for generations and can probably be seen in Meacham's Atlas as one of the original PEI farm lots. The topography is slightly rolling with a few grassy knolls here and there.

Keep your fingers crossed for me and start doing your sun dances! Come on Spring!!!
